Jessica Olander a senior girls soccer player for Desert Ridge High School was recently named one of eight finalists for Arizona Republic Girls Soccer State Player of the Year. Olander led the state’s largest classification – 6A in Goals, 29 and Points 72. She also recorded 14 assists this season. The Desert Ridge team advanced to the State Quarterfinals this season. Olander will attend an Awards Ceremony sponsored by the Arizona Republic on Sunday, June 9th at Gammage Hall on the campus of Arizona State University, where the winner will be announced. Olander was also named the Central Region Player of the Year, and also was named to the AZSports360.com All Academic Team. Heavily recruited by many Universities and Colleges across the nation, Olander says she has decided not to play anywhere, but rather wants to focus on her studies in college and career thereafter. Olander will graduate this spring from Desert Ridge, with Honors – carrying a 4.4 GPA. She will attend ASU starting this fall with a full academic scholarship with a goal of one day becoming a Pediatrician. Congratulations, Jessica – we are proud of you!
