On September 27th, the DRHS Swim and Dive team traveled to the Kino Aquatic facility to swim against Mountain View High School. MVHS has one of the top ranked swim teams in the state, and is very deep with talent in almost every event. DRHS put up a great fight but came up short as both teams lost – boys lost 59 to 126, and the girls lost 64 to 122.
The boys team took 1st in the medley relay (Walker, Tankersley, Smith, Craig), 3rd in the 200 free relay (Walker, Edwards, Thomas, Ray), and 3rd in the 400 free relay (Craig, Smith, Tankersley, Walker). Luke Walker took first place in the 200 free, and also set a new team record with a -4.38 second drop, finishing with a 1:47.72. He also coasted to a first place finish in the 100 backstroke. Essias Smith took 2nd in the 200 IM and 1st in the 100 fly. Garrett Merrill dropped 16.28 in his 100 fly. Connor Jones dropped over 11 seconds in the 100 free, good job Connor!! Captain Tanner Elkins placed 2nd in the 500 free. Captain Cameron Tankersley dropped a little time and took 2nd place in the 100 breaststroke.
The girls team took 2nd in the medley relay (Harr, Patters, Dayton, C. Walker), 2nd in the 200 free relay (Patters, S. Grant, Dayton, Harr) and 3rd in the 400 free relay (Kinnaird, O’Brien, K. Mabb, Mask). Kailee Patters placed 2nd in the 200 free and 100 breast. Shaylin Grant took 3rd in the 200 IM. Karina Harr continued her strong dual meet stance with 1st place finishes in both the 50 free and 100 fly. Carolynn Walker took 3rd in the 100 free. Captain Alexandra O’Brien took 3rd in the 500 free. Freshman Hailey Mask took 2nd in the 100 back.
