Coed Varsity Swimming · Jaguars Swim takes Second Place overall in Saturday Night Fever Invitational

Desert Ridge Swim participated in the Saturday Night Fever Invitational on Saturday the 29th.  The girls and boys had tremendous team showings with 2nd place finishes for both.  Also, both teams ended the meet setting new varsity records in the 400 freestyle relays, and both teams had amazing individual swims.

Olivia Dayton started off the meet qualifying for state and swimming a perfectly paced 200 free.  This was good enough for 5th place overall.  Dayton also qualified for state in the 100 and 50 freestyle (leadoff from 200 free relay).  Halee Merrill dropped more time in her 200 freestyle, and got her 2nd varsity cut making her a varsity team member.  Freshman Kailee Patters qualified for state and placed 3rd overall in the 200 IM, and 5th place in the 100 breast.  Shaylin Grant continued her fast streak in the 200 IM, qualifying for state and placing 4th overall.  She also took 4th place in the 100 breaststroke.  Freshman Hailey Mask officially made 2 varsity cuts in the 50 free and 100 back, and also qualified for state in the backstroke.  Tatum Shumway had a decent meet and made her first varsity cut in the 50 free.  Kylie Grant officially made varsity and qualified for state in her 100 fly.  Jaidyn Wolfe got 5th in the 100 fly, took 4th place in the 100 backstroke, and qualified for state in the backstroke.  Wolfe also led off a fast 400 free relay (her leadoff time qualified her for state in the 100 freestyle).  Karina Harr took 3rd place in the 100 fly and 2nd in the 100 breast.  The girls 400 free relay (Wolfe, Dayton, Patters, Harr) ended the evening taking 1st place overall, and breaking the varsity record by 2 seconds.  McKenna Craig dropped over 11 seconds in her 200 IM and over 4 seconds in her 100 free.  Alexandra O’Brien made her 2nd varsity cut by dropping 11 seconds in her 500 free.  Freshman Kaitlyn Kinnaird also had an excellent showing in her 500 free, and dropped a whopping 19.86 seconds.  Skyla Nicholson had a decent swim and over a 4 second drop in her 100 back.

Nolan Craig placed 1st overall in the 200 free, and qualified for state in his 100 back, as well as the 100 free from his leadoff in the 400 free relay.  Essias Smith took 2nd in the 200 IM and 100 fly, and also qualified for state in the IM.  Luke Walker took 4th place overall in the 100 fly, qualifying for the state meet, and 3rd overall in the 100 back.  Tanner Elkins qualified for state in his 100 fly.  John Walker dropped over 3 seconds in his 100 fly.  Emery Gomez had a huge drop in his 100 free, and went under a minute for the first time.  The boys 200 free relay (Tankersley, Ray, Walker, Smith) took 1st overall in the meet.  Ben Edwards and Cameron Tankersley both qualified for state in the 100 breaststroke.  The boys 400 free relay (Craig, Elkins, Smith, Walker) took 2nd and broke the varsity record in the event by almost a full second.
