The old saying – “Hard Work pays Off” – held true this weekend for the Desert Ridge Cheer Program. Since last August the Desert Ridge Cheer Program has been intensely prepping for State and National Competition…. countless hours of training have been put in. On Wednesday morning the Team loaded a charter bus to Anaheim, Californial for the UCA National Championships, where over 1,400 teams across America competed.
Things got going on Friday afternoon when the All Girls Advanced Stunt Team competition began. Back in January the team took home STATE CHAMPIONSHIP Hardware, and now were prepared to compete against the other nation’s best. The Desert Ridge team members – Carson Sudduth, Madilyn Bray, Halle Bodell, Peyton Rousch, and Brianna Standage…had a great performance and finished 16th out of 46 teams.
Later in the day, the Desert Ridge JV Show Cheer Squad put on a spectacular performance to capture 5th Place in the Nation!
….and then came Saturday – when the nation’s elite Varsity cheer squad’s competed. The Desert Ridge Show Cheer Team, with several solid performances, put them in 1st Place entering the finals. In the Finals the Jaguars had a magnificent performance and were hopeful thought the same. In the end, the Jaguars came up just short of the Championship….edged by a 5 time defending National Championship squad by just 2 tenths of a point. Head Coach, Christine Shea had this to say – ” We competed against the best teams in the country, and we definitely gave it our all – that is all a coach can ask for. I am very proud of the hard work and dedication that these girls put in. We entered the National Championship Finals in 1st Place and we definitely put a 1st Place routine on the mat. We ended up just tenths of a point behind behind the highly favored 5 time defending National Champions…. although it would have been great to win the National Championship, coming in 2nd is nothing to be ashamed of. I am so proud of our girls.” Click on the link below to see the Jags acceptance of their runner up National Title finish.
