Jaguars News · Bennett Named 6A Defensive Player of the Year!

Desert Ridge Senior Defensive End was named the 6A Conference Friday Night Fever Defensive Player of the Year!  Bennett was chosen over several top defensive players in the 6A Conference and this is a huge honor!  Bennett led the Jaguars with 14 and a half sacks, and 23 tackles for loss.  Coach Jeremy Hathcock had this to say  – “I could be happier for Desha to get this honor.  When he was a junior, he had a number of players in front of him and so he didn’t get much playing time on varsity, and even played some JV.  Going into his senior year, we really needed him to play Defensive End.  He was apprehensive at first to play D. End, but wanted to do what was best for the team.  Once he started playing there, he blossomed and dominated the opposition.  Desha is also a great team player, and a fine young man.  I am so proud of him.”

When asked about the honor, Desha was humble – “I was surprised and happy to get this award.  This wouldn’t have been possible without my teammates and coaches and so I am thankful.”  Desha says he wants to play football at the next level, and he certainly will get numerous offers in the coming months. He also said he is interested in going into the Navy.  Watch Channel 12’s Friday Night Fever at 11:35 tonight (Friday, Dec. 8) and you will see Desha recognized and interviewed during the program!  Congratulations Desha!  Desert Ridge is very PROUD of YOU!
