The Desert Ridge Jaguars Boys Basketball team came through with a gutty effort on Wednesday night in the “Sweet 16” of the 6A State Playoffs beating 7th seeded Gilbert High School 46 to 42. The win by Desert Ridge avenges two earlier close losses to the Tigers. Like the those two games, this game was a high intensity back and forth battle. The score was tied 19 to 19 at the half. The Tigers opened the second half scoring the first 7 points to go up 26 to 19, but the Jaguars would fight back to within two to start the 4th quarter. Desert Ridge really tightened up its defense in the final stanza, and dominated the boards. A few huge shots, and some clutch free throws down the stretch, meant that the Jaguars advance in the playoffs!
The Jaguars now are in the “Elite 8” of the State Playoffs and will next play Basha High at their place on Saturday night, with tip off at 6:30. Basha is the #2 seed in the tournament and comes in with an overall record of 27 and 1. The two teams faced off in December on the Jaguars court, and it was a battle back and forth. Basha won on a last second shot, 34 to 33.
The Jaguars had a great crowd on Wednesday night at Gilbert, and will need another huge crowd Saturday night to help our team on to victory. Saturday Night – 6:30 pm. Tip Off at Basha High School. Be There! GO JAGS! For this AIA State Playoff Game – Admission is $5 for Students, and $10 for Adults.
